The chances of this happening are slim but as parents, we are responsible for making sure we can deal with whatever situation life throws at us – including keeping our baby safe.
Now mums and dads are being urged to watch this video by St John’s Ambulance as it could end up saving their child’s life.
It talks through the steps of baby CPR – which is different to adult CPR – should one ever find their son or daughter unconscious and not breathing.
The animated clip is part of the organisation’s Nursery Rhymes Inc campaign and involves a number of familiar characters.
They produced it after finding out from a OnePoll survey that an “unconscious child” is the most frightening scenario for almost three-quarters of parents.
CEO of St John’s Ambulance Sue Killen said:
“We know that a major barrier to parents learning is that baby CPR frightens them, so we’ve removed the fear factor and made it reassuring and as easy as possible to learn.
“We hope the song will stick in everyone’s heads. We’re asking everyone to share the video so that all parents, grandparents and carers can learn what to do in those crucial minutes after a baby has stopped breathing.”
