Confession: I LOVE planning parties.
So much so that my sister-in-law, Claire, has long since re-named me the Martha Stewart of the family, and really (apart from the fact that I only dream of being the cook that Martha is), it is rather fitting.
This means, of course, that when it is time for any of my kids’ birthdays, I go to town planning the whole day (from the balloons that cover the entire floors of their bedrooms when they wake up to the colour coordinated straws, napkins, and paper decor that adorn the house).
While it has very much become the trend (at my little girl’s school, anyway) to host kids’ parties out at a variety of party venues, I would like to give a shout-out to the good, aul’ at-home parties. Sure, you might have a bit of cleaning up to do afterwards, they really are a ton of fun, so much easier to customise and a lot more personal than a play centre or party venue any day.
Stuck for ideas? Here are three really simple party ideas that are bound to go down an absolute treat:
1. Sprinkles Party
If there is one thing that screams party to me, it is sprinkles. I mean; can you look at anything containing sprinkles and not feel happy? Didn’t think so.
The beauty here is that you can literally put sprinkles on anything, in fact, the more, the better – and boom! Instant party theme.

2. Garden Glamping
If you have a kid whose birthday happens to be in the summer, glamping is such a fun party theme! It’s dead easy to sort out too – I mean; we are talking camping, so nothing needs – or should be – too precious. Just simply pitch a tent in the garden and you are good to go.
If you have got a BBQ out the back, a glamping party is perfect for some grilled hot dogs and marshmallows, and you don’t even have to worry about tables and chairs, just put down a picnic blanket and you are set.

3. Painting Party
OK, so I know this sounds a bit messy, but the thing is, the kids will love it. If the weather is good, why not have them do the actual painting in the garden?
All you need to do is get yourself to your nearest arts and crafts shop and pick up some canvases, some pretty paint colours and you are all set.
Oh, and if you really want to make it a theme, DIY a paint-splattered table cloth for the table and serve party food on paper plates and cups splattered with (non-toxic) paint.
