5 year-old boy has lovely reaction to his brother coming out

"If you marry a man it's going to be so cool."

“If you marry a man it’s going to be so cool.”

Coming out to friends and family can’t be easy, which is what makes this video so lovely.

Oliver Potter, who shares blogs on his Youtube channel, came out as gay live on camera while filming with his five-year-old brother Alfie.

Oliver starts by asking what Alfie thinks of love and then brings up the subject of partners.

“Have you noticed that I haven’t got a girlfriend?” he asks.

The ensuing conversation is a great example of how to introduce a child to an adult topic like sexuality.

“If you marry a man it’s going to be so cool,” Alfie tells his brother.

He also shares his thoughts on adoption – “when you have a baby you will get the ones who got lost.”

“My brother’s reaction made me realise what a kind and gentle soul he is,” wrote Oliver in the video’s description.

“He is right – love is love, you really can be who you want to be, you just have to pluck up the courage to make it happen.”

If nothing else the clip, which has been viewed over 2 million times in the past two weeks, shows how prejudice is a learned behaviour and just how open-minded our little ones can be.
