Anne Hathaway has vowed to quit drinking for 18 years to be a better parent

She made the decision after one hungover school run.

Everyone knows hangovers warrant calm, quiet environments where you can totally focus on yourself and just relax. What’s the opposite of all of that? Kids.

When children are in your life, you’re no longer your number one priority and their needs quickly outweigh your own.

It’s pretty logical therefore that mixing hangovers with kids isn’t really an ideal situation and it’s a lesson that Anne Hathaway had a bit of an epiphany about.

Speaking on Ellen yesterday, the 36-year-old mum of one told the popular talk show host about one drunken experience whilst filming her latest film, Serenity with Matthew McConaughey.

She went on a wild night out in Mauritius with Matthew and his wife, Camila Alves, and unfortunately had a very hungover meeting with their director, Steven Knight, the next day.

Following that experience and some other rough mornings, Anne made the official decision to quit drinking for 18 years back in October. “I’m gonna stop drinking while my son’s living in my house just because I don’t totally love the way I do it and he’s getting to an age where he really does need me all the time in the mornings,” she said of her and husband Adam Shulman’s 2-year-old son, Jonathan Rosebanks Shulman.

In particular, there was one experience that made her think enough was enough:

“I did one school run one day where I wasn’t driving but I was hungover, and that was enough for me,” she said.

“I didn’t love that.”

Ellen was quick to make light of the situation saying,” another reason I don’t want kids.”
