Apparently, this is the number of arguments parents have with their kids every year

Keeley Ryan

Uh oh.

Mums and dads have 2,184 arguments with their children every year – but they barely win half of them.

A new study polled 2,000 parents of children between the ages of 2 and 12, with many admitting they fell out over what they want to eat, drink or do on a day-to-day basis.

According to The Mirrorthe research – which was commissioned by Capri-Sun – found that the average family will disagree about something six times a day.

This ends up with 42 rows a week, or 182 in a month.

And, more often than not, the source of the arguments was children not eating everything on their plate – followed by untidy bedrooms, then kids complaining about being hungry then shutting down anything ‘healthy’.

Children complaining about being full even though they have barely touched their food, and general siblings squabbles rounded out the top five.

Researchers found that the average family argument lasts just over eight minutes – and that parents only claim a victory in just over half (53 per cent) of the rows.

Mums and dads spend around 16 minutes a day negotiating with their kids, with around 50 per cent of them striking deals to get them to eat and drink what they want.

A spokesman for Capri-Sun said:

“Many parents believe that reaching a compromise with their children is the best way to keep everyone happy.

“With the majority of household rows being about food and drink, mums and dads have the tricky task of settling a fight while still keeping the upper hand.

“Feedback from parents led us to update the recipe for our Original range to be one the whole family can agree on; a treat that kids love and parents can feel good about.”
