Baby Talk Is Super Beneficial For Your Baby (Says Science)

Trine Jensen-Burke

It’s the one thing so many of us delusionally think we will never do – but I swear, the minute you get within ten feet of a teeny tiny newborn, that sing-songy baby voice just gurgles up out of nowhere – just try and you shall see.

The good news is that you should not feel embarrassed or apologize for your baby talk, guys. As it turns out, a recent study from Rutgers University in Newark just found that baby talk (also known as “motherese”) isn’t just a maternal instinct; it’s actually super-educational for babies.

How? Well, according to the researchers, when we use a baby voice, we tend to enunciate and exaggerate the most important syllables and properties of the language that a baby needs to learn. And because of this, it’s actually easier for babies and young children to process and turn what they hear into actual language and speaking skills.

So you goo-goo ga-ga all you want, mamas – you got that parenting thing down!
