As a working mum, I often wonder what the secret is when it comes to juggling family, career and all the stuff in-betweeen.
I find myself looking at other parents who work outside the home and wonder how they manage to balance everything so perfectly. Or so it seems.
Who knows what goes on behind closed doors. Life might look peachy and serene from the outside, but does anyone REALLY have it sussed?
If there was one famous mum who seems to be able to manage it like a pro, for me it would be Reese Witherspoon. She always looks groomed; plus, she is so composed. All. The. Time. Definitely no signs of struggling to keep afloat. Even when speaking earlier this year about meeting the demands of her two-year-old fussy eater, she didn’t appear stressed out.
Turns out that comes from her childhood – the looking good at all times thing anyway. Speaking in an interview for the September issue of Southern Living the actress said, “My grandmother, Dorothea, was so elegant. She didn’t have a lot of dresses or anything, but she always looked put together. She’d say, “If you look good, you feel good.” It’s a tenet I’ve carried all my life—whether I’m doing movies or at home with the kids.”
On balancing three children and multiple careers, she continued, “No one’s really doing it perfectly. I think you love your kids with your whole heart, and you do the best you possibly can.” Too true.
She revealed, “Right now I’m feeling sad missing my little two-year-old, and my daughter’s about to finish her freshman year of high school, and my son has a golf tournament this weekend that I hope I don’t miss. There are some sacrifices you make, and it hurts your heart sometimes, but my kids tell me they’re proud of what I’ve accomplished, and that just means everything. I grew up with a working mom, and I have so much respect for the things she did as a nurse and a teacher. I would never begrudge her that.”
Sigh. She even manages to say the right things too.
