This ‘dumb phone’ is the perfect solution to your child wanting their own device

If you can't get your hands on an old Nokia.

Anna O'Rourke

We all lose hours of our lives scrolling mindlessly through our phones on social media and a lot of parents are conscious of their children doing the same.

We’ve all seen just how tech-savvy even very young kids are now (you probably have a three-year-old who can open your phone quicker than you can) but we also know how damaging too much screen time can be to young, developing brains.

That, coupled with the concerns we all have about social media and child protection, mean a solution to being constantly asked either to hand over your smartphone to your child or buy them their own is very welcome.

Enter, the ‘dumb phone’.

Well, it’s actually called the Light Phone 2 but it’s popularly known as the dumb phone because of just how stripped back it is compared to the high-tech devices we all use.

The phone has just three functions; texting, calls and an alarm.

It wasn’t developed specifically for kids but it will let you keep tabs on them if you’re apart, while being far less addictive than a smartphone.

Theres no bright screen, no apps, no internet connectivity – it’s basically a stylish, 2018 take on the old Nokias we all had 20 years ago.

That said, you might have to dig out a Nokia phone for the moment as the Light Phone 2 is currently sold out and isn’t expected to be available until April of 2019.
