Feileacain will be holding a service this week for parents who have lost children

Melissa Carton

October is pregnancy and child loss awareness month.

Not for profit organization Feileacain will be hosting a service this week for families who have lost children.

The ceremony which will take place in Dungarvan, Waterford, is only one of the upcoming services which will be held across the country.

This week’s service is to take place in St. Mary’s Church of Ireland, Dungarvan at 3.00 pm this Saturday October 20.

The organisation was formed by a group of bereaved parents who supported each other after the death of their own babies and have now come together to formally offer support to other parents and families who find themselves in a similar situation.

As well as holding regular services of remembrance the organisation also creates memory boxes for bereaved parents and offers a support helpline.

There will be a Christmas Remembrance Service at St. Joseph’s Church, Wilton, in Cork on Sunday November 25 at 3.30PM and a Dublin Christmas Service on Sunday December 2, in the Unitarian Church, St. Stephen’s Green, Dublin 2.

A Kerry service is to be announced shortly.

Child loss is an extremely difficult and heartbreaking experience for any parent to go through and if you or anyone you know has been affected by it you can find out more about Feileacain’s support services on their website.
