A four-year-old girl has won social media users’ hearts after her letter to Lego asking for better female representation in its magazine went viral.
Earlier this week, actor and director Samuel West took to Twitter to share his daughter’s letter.
He explained that she loves Lego, football and blue – so, understandably, “she was delighted to get the new Lego City magazine”.

My daughter, four, loves Lego, football and blue, so she was delighted to get the new Lego City magazine.
Then she noticed that of the 29 people who talk in it, only one is female, and she speaks once, to agree with a man.

However, according to West, the young girl was left feeling discouraged when she realised that there were 29 characters who speak in the magazine – and only one is female.
And, he added, that when she does speak, it’s “to agree with a man”.
He tweeted:
“My daughter, four, loves Lego, football and blue, so she was delighted to get the new Lego City magazine.

He explained that his daughter wrote the company a letter, which he included a photo of in the tweet.

It read:
“To Lego magazine, can you put some more girls in your magazine, please?”
His initial tweet got almost 2,000 retweets and more than 9,000 likes – and he later updated it when Lego responded.
West shared the “prompt and courteous” response from the company, adding that his daughter was pleased “and feels heard”.
The company said:
“We think your daughter rocks! We look forward to receiving her letter. Like you, we believe LEGO play is for everyone and that our magazines need to reflect that.
“We’ll review future editions to make sure this is the case. We hope your daughter will always love LEGO, football and blue.”
