This girl’s touching post reminds us all how amazing mums really are

Melissa Carton

Mums are often the unsung heroes.

They put so much time and energy into looking after everyone else and unfortunately it’s something that we can take for granted.

I found I didn’t realise how much was done for me while I was growing up until I became a parent myself.

In my line of work I come across a lot of lovely stories about mums but this one, in particular, got me right in the feels. Warning, this post may make you feel like calling your mum immediately to thank her for everything she’s ever done for you.

The Instagram post and birthday message reads;

“When I was 16 I came back from Cheer camp and waited in the parking lot for over 45 minutes for my mom to show up. My cheer coach had to wait with us until everyone left and I was the last one standing in the parking lot alone, as she checked her watch and rolled her eyes at me I was mortified by every slow minute passing by. I hated that my mom was different than other moms.

Eventually, my mom showed up apologizing profusely, I was livid and hoped in the car, we arrived home and I ran to my room in very typical 16 year old jerk mood.

I opened my room door and it was like a scene from a movie; my mom had completely redecorated my room, got me a beautiful bed frame, all new furniture, my room looked like it was straight out of a Home and Garden magazine. She had recruited everyone in our community to surprise me and create a beautiful comfortable space for me to come home to.

My mom has always been the type of person that would do anything for the ones that she loves. I love you Mom, happy birthday ? thank you for being the perfect mom for me. I can’t wait to buy you a big ole house in Beverly Hills because you deserve it! “

Written by actress and writer Charmee Monet Taylor, this heartfelt message is something that we can all relate to.

Whenever my kid doesn’t appreciate the effort I go through for them I think ‘this is probably my karma for being a moody teenager’. Hopefully, all the chocolate and scented candles I’ve bought on Mother’s Day over the years will have made up for it a bit.

Honestly though if my children can look back on their childhood anywhere close to how Charmee does then I’ll consider the job that I’ve done raising them a success.

When I think about the times that really made me happy as a child it’s rarely family holidays or trips to the toy store (although that was always deadly). It was the times I would perform variety shows at school and look out to see a familiar face in the crowd or the nights snuggled up with all the duvets on the floor watching movies.

So to all the mamas there, know that you’re doing a fantastic job and don’t worry if you are currently dealing with a stroppy teen. They’ll appreciate it all one day…especially when they’re dealing with a toddler and are ringing you up for help.

Here’s to the mammies!
