Mother upset after being ‘dropped’ by her friend after comment her daughter made

Do you think she was right?

A mother has taken to a popular parenting forum to share her recent dilemma after she claims her friend ‘dropped’ her over something her daughter said.

The mother explained that she was friends with the other woman before they both had children. Since having children, their friendship has strengthened even more because their two children, her six-year-old daughter and the other woman’s four-year-old son, are also now friends.

However, following a recent incident, they are no longer speaking. It all stemmed down to one comment the little girl made to the boy about him not having a dad.

The mother explained that the other woman is a single parent and hadn’t discussed her ex with her son, so when the little girl mentioned that he had no dad it upset him.

The second mother asked for the little girl not to mention it again. The first woman believed that was the end of it, until later that night when she got a text saying the little boy and his mother were ‘inconsolable’. Taking to Mumsnet, she said:

“I got a message telling me her son was inconsolable and so was she at what was said.

I’ve not heard a word since from her and I can imagine she is telling everyone how awful we are.

I know it’s a sensitive topic for her but you can’t expect children to understand.”

A lot of people were saying that you cannot help what children say to other children, as they tend not to have a filter. One person said, “Well, she won’t have many friends soon as children talk about families once they start noticing they are not all the same,” while another added, “I have an 8-year-old who has no control what he is saying (despite all attempts to get him to be more considerate).”
