Mum admits to ‘hating’ her baby, internet has kind response

'It’s been five months of torture.'

Anna O'Rourke

Expressing any negative feelings about being a parent or your children can feel like the last taboo of motherhood.

Are you an awful person for wanting to get away from your kids or for finding them boring? Not at all, though it can be comforting to know other parents have gone through similar feelings.

A Mumsnet user spoke out this week about struggling with her five-month-old and got a heartwarmingly supportive response from other mums.

“I hate my baby,” she wrote on the parenting forum.

Her five-month-old son suffers with acid reflux and cries near constantly, she explained, and she’s feeling hopeless.

“Health visitors don’t help, my family don’t help, nobody can help.

“I’ve tried keeping him close and I’ve tried getting him used to being put down. I’ve tried white noise. I’ve tried a jumperoo. I’ve tried swaddling. I’m always consistent with what I’m trying but nothing helps.”

The baby’s crying is disrupting her two older children’s sleep, she continued.

“It’s been five months of torture, I honestly feel like climbing out of my window and jumping, if it wasn’t for my other children I probably would.”

There was a wave of support and empathy for the mum from the other Mumsnet users.

Her fellow mamas shared their experience and some helpful tips.

“Oh you poor love… I remember how soul destroying the endless nights of no sleep felt.”

“My last daughter was like that. I genuinely considered throwing her downstairs. I was exhausted and just so broken by the endless crying.”

“Oh honey. Your poor thing. My son was very similar and I know how you feel. It’s just awful.”

“Massive hugs as you need it. I’ve been there. It’s shit but you CAN do this. I promise!!”
