Mum asks for advice after husband’s ‘strange’ reaction to baby daughter seeing him naked

Keeley Ryan

Many felt he was being “irrational”.

A mum has turned to the internet for advice after her husband had a “strange reaction” when their baby daughter saw him naked.

The woman explained in her Mumsnet post that her husband flew into a panic when their little girl toddled into the bathroom as he was getting out of the shower.

She admitted that, at first, she had just thought he was startled and worried about stepping on their daughter – but then he got “very serious” about it, and told her he didn’t feel comfortable.

She wrote:

“My baby has just started walking and is running about already.

“So today they ran into the bathroom whilst my husband was out the shower drying off and toweling his hair. He freaked out send told me to take her away.

“Initially I thought it was because she had scared him (ie. Not realising she was there nearly stepping on her ) but turns out it was purely because he was naked.

“I laughed this off explaining she had seen me naked plenty (hell Im still breast-feeding ) but he got very serious and doesn’t feel comfortable about it.

“AIBU to think this is strange? And trying to get him comfortable considering she might do this lots in the years to come?”

Many people sided with the mum, branding the dad “ridiculous” and “irrational” for the way he reacted.

One person said:

“Sorry but he is being very ridiculous she is a baby not a 16yr old.”

Another wrote:

“Worth having a conversation about in a very respectful and light hearted way to find out exactly what the problem is, if he can tell you.

“If not, I guess it doesn’t cause any harm.”

Others parents stuck for the dad, with one pointing out: “There’s no right or wrong in this.”

They added:

“Your DH feels how he feels and if he doesn’t want the kids to see him naked, then that’s his choice.

“He needs to get a lock for the door though.”

Somebody else said:

“Might be that he was brought up in a house where parents were not naked in front of him/any siblings.”
