“I was surprised at how well it worked.”

How is it that babies can somehow seem even more alert when they’re sleeping than when they’re awake?

Getting them down to sleep is one thing but keeping them snoozing away is quite another, which is why we have to give serious snaps to one Australian mum for her brilliant hack.

Melissa Dykstra’s one-month-old daughter Olivia has been a bit fussy lately, Melissa told News.com.au.

The new mum figured out that if she simply blew up a washing up glove, tied it and left it on the baby’s stomach, it’d allow her a precious few moments to herself.

“It gave me enough time for a shower and to finish my coffee while it was still hot,” Melissa said.

“I did sit with her and she wasn’t upset when she woke up, just looked a little confused.

“She’s going through her first ‘leap’ (in her mental development) so she’s been extra clingy the last few days and makes it so hard to even go to the bathroom so I thought I’d try it and I was surprised at how well it worked.”

Melissa shared the hack into a Facebook group for parents to swap tips and tricks.

The post has proven a hit with other mums and dads, clocking up thousands of comments and shares in just a few days.
