This mum’s candid account of motherhood is mighty refreshing

It was one of those 'shit days.'

Louise Carroll

The look says it all.

Last Friday, mum and writer, Sarah Cottrell, came close to one of those breakdown days. Or maybe it was a breakdown day – one that she had just enough energy left to write about. After all a problem shared is a problem halved.

Sarah, who also has a blog called Housewife Plus, took to Facebook to express how she felt and to probably liberate herself from the upset and frustration she was going through during the ultimate parenting day from hell. Yes, shit had hit the fan.

Think screaming kids, teething toddlers, kitchen besieged with dishes, the living room plagued with all sorts of stuff (probably more dishes) and toys scattered literally (in a death-trap kind of way) everywhere. Well this was THE day Sarah just needed a break from it all… and she wanted to share it with other mums because she knows they go through the exact same thing.

The super honest mum spoke about motherhood saying,

“It’s this crazy journey that is mostly rewarding but pock marked by sh*tty days like this one. These are the ‘if-it-doesn’t-kill-you’ kind of days.”

“Getting anything done in this house is dizzying. I haven’t showered, eaten, or even gotten dressed for that matter and it’s already after 2pm. And you know what? I don’t feel #blessed in this moment. I feel frustrated and tired.”

It’s also no easy feat taking care of things with little ones that have an unlimited energy supply that we grownups just can’t keep up with .

“My oldest son is bouncing off the walls (literally, there is a frigging dent in the wall), my middle wild child just bonked his head while spelunking in the linen closet and now has an ice pack on his developing egg.”

It seems plenty of people out there could relate to this mama’s predicament. One Facebook user commented:

“Thank you for your refreshingly honest account of motherhood – some days, I feel ya!”

While another shared some wisdom stating:

“You’re absolutely normal… take it from someone whose kids are grown, successful and happy… I felt and looked like you many a time… keep talking about it and remember these days will not last forever… believe me!”

It seems there’s always light at the end of the tunnel, so hang in there mamas, the most important job in the world is the one you’re doing right now – and you’re doing fab.
