Mums share the crazy things their toddlers do (in other people’s homes)

Cathy Donohue

Take two minutes and have a read of this.

If you’ve ever felt like your toddler is out of control, to the point where they’re running rings around you in someone else’s home, this internet thread is for you.

One mum is in that exact situation and so, she took to popular online forum Mumsnet to ask other mothers if they had similar experiences.

In a line which we’re sure all mums can identify with, she asked for people to tell tales that would make her “feel better” and mama, we hear you.

“What is the most amount of damage your toddler has caused in someone else’s house? Come and make me feel better”.

The mum asking for advice had to smile and grin when her toddler:

“pressed a button on a small remote control which had been left on the coffee table. This caused the lid on the side cabinet to open and a tv to start sliding up. The only problem was that the sideboard was currently being used to display a collection of antiques, which came spectacularly crashing down, one by one. Estimated damage, one hundred thousand euros”.

A lot of the comments on the thread, which you can check out here, suggested that leaving the remote where it could be accessed was a bad idea but of course, opinions vary considerably.

The replies that followed included some hilarious experiences although of course, they weren’t funny at the time.

One mum said:

“We went for a playdate with a few other kids when DS was small, and they decided that the host’s cream bedroom carpet was the wrong colour, so the whole gang got busy with a pot of paint to change it to purple”.

Another mum said her little one “once rubbed a jumbo-sized pot of Sudocreme into a deep shagpile carpet in a rented flat”.

“I thought I was going to cry. He was about 11 months old. He was covered, an armchair was ruined and the carpet was a write-off”.
