Becoming a mum can sometimes feel like you’ve lost a bit of yourself.
Spending all day doing things for little people who don’t understand that you’re anything other than a dinner-maker or shoe-finder can be frustrating, which might be why mamas delight in the smallest of things.
While a day in your pre-baby life might not have been complete without spending at least an hour watching Netflix, you’re probably grateful if you just get to pee uninterrupted now.
The little things can mean a lot, as the parents of Mumsnet have been showing.
Mums there are sharing their small victories and odd talents on a thread on the site called ‘Minor (stupid) achievements you are secretly proud of‘, and they’re just as insignificant as you might think.
Some are bonkers, some are a bit gross and some are really, really insignificant, but they all prove just how much mamas get out of the smallest things.
Here are a few of our favourites.
“I can blow surprisingly large bubbles with chewing gum.”
“I have a tiny kitchen. I can make a cuppa, then throw the teabag in a perfect arc to land in the bin without dripping every time”.
“I’m morbidly obese but can bend over and put both hands flat on the floor.”
“I can suck my top lip, completely flush against my nostrils. So my nose is completely blocked and my nostrils close-up at the sides.”
“I am quite good at cooking rice.”
“I am excellent at parallel parking. Like really, really good.”
“I can always get a bit more toothpaste out of the tube. Even when most normal people would have thrown it out a week ago.”
