Parents are now enrolling their children and teens in etiquette classes (and we are totally tempted too!)

They are said to be tiger-ish in every way when it comes to their parenting, and now social climbing mums and dads in New York are also opting to enrol their youngsters in etiquette classes in a bid to hone their social skills for the future.

After initially launching an etiquette program for adults, Beaumont Etiquette founder Myka Meier explains to Town & Country she received so many requests to offer classes for children that “the idea essentially came from parents themselves.”

That’s New York for you.

According to Meier herself, the kids’ program will focus on traditional topics like table manners and how to shake hands properly, but also shed some light on more modern issues – or soft social skills if you will – like social media decorum and the proper use of e-mail and phone communications.

Apparently, according to the expert, the earlier you start teaching manners and etiquette, the more ingrained it becomes in a child’s life.

If you happen to find yourself in the Big Apple this spring, the Children’s Etiquette Program is eligible for boys and girls from ages five to 11, and the $125 fee includes light refreshments and beverages.

What do YOU think, parents? Would YOU send your child to class to gracefully tackle social media and modern life in general? Let us know in the comments!
