Perfectly imperfect – this video so totally sums up motherhood in all its messy glory

Your heart burst open the moment your baby is born – and that’s it – your journey into motherhood begins – and while it is beautiful and amazing, can we also all agree it’s far from a permanently smooth ride?

Seriously though – motherhood is gloriously messy, it’s tear-your-hair-out frusterating at times, it will make you cry with laughter and weep in pure exhaustion. It is, as this hilariously funny and accurate scetch sums it up – perfectly imperfect in every way.

So let’s all just remember this: There is no such thing as a perfect mother. And as this past Sunday was Mother’s Day in the US, Saturday Night Live aired a sketch that made that point perfectly clear when they showed the realities that go down behind-the-scenes of motherhood. In fact – prepare for a whole lot of cursing, crayon eating, screaming about stuffed animals, and more cursing.

The sketch opens with a very exhausted, very frustrated mom (Heidi Gardner) asking her mom (Thompson) how she managed to be such a perfect parent. Thompson is pretty coy about the whole thing, saying that her daughter made everything really, really easy. But in flashback scenes we can see that statement is, in fact, a straight-up lie.

Sounds like motherhood like you know it? I know – just take a look, we bet you will cry laughing:
