For when a face-to-face conversation doesn’t quite cut it.
When you’re a parent to a teenager, it can feel next to impossible to get them to listen to anything that you try and tell – or ask – them to do.
But there’s some good news: Reese Witherspoon’s method of getting her children –Â Ava, 19, Deacon, 15 and Tennessee, 6 – to pay attention to her may help.
The actress took to Instagram earlier this week to share her oh-so-simple way of getting her kids’ attention…and we’d imagine it is pretty effective, too.
The post featured a selfie of Witherspoon, taken with Snapchat’s giraffe filter across it. Along the very bottom of the photo, she said: “Go clean your dirty room.”

The Big Little Lies actress captioned the photo: “How to talk to teenagers on Snapchat #momlife.”
The post really struck a chord with her followers, with it getting nearly 250,000 likes on Instagram.
One person wrote:
“Yes!!!!! Just the other day my husband said he texted our daughter and she never responded. I said, ‘yeah you have to use Snapchat if you want a response.'”
Someone else commented:
“I am constantly sending my teens snapchats to do their chores.”
It’s not the first time that the 42-year-old has referred to her kids’ fondness f0r the social media app as a method of communicating.
During an appearance on the Today show in 2016, she joked [via PEOPLE] that “they will Snapchat me back, but they will not call me back.”
