Shopping centres in Columbia unveil breastfeeding mannequins

Orlaith Condon

A Columbian shopping centre has taken steps to ‘normalise’ public breastfeeding by introducing breastfeeding mannequins.

Last month, many stores in the capital city of Bogotá introduced the new mannequins in a bid to end the stigma around public breastfeeding.

The initiative was inspired by Amigos de la Lactancia (Friends of Breastfeeding), a movement that aims to support mothers who have been shamed for breastfeeding their children in public.

The group is working to get shopping centres across the country to declare their support for mothers who wish to feed in public.

The shops in this mall are just some of the retail stores across the city that have opted to introduce the mannequins in the hopes of “changing attitudes about public breastfeeding for good”.
