Stay at home mums should earn €142,000, study reveals

Amy Nolan

Stay at home mums should earn €140,495 according to this study

The figure is based on a mighty 96 hours of work per week.

Undoubtedly being a stay at home mum is a full-time job. Unfortunately, it’s just not a paid one. For some people, it’s paramount to stay at home and raise their children and for other women they choose to go back to work for one reason or another.

And nowadays, there are the stay at home dads – everyone’s different.

When it comes to being a stay at home parent however one thing is clear, there’s no specific job description. Tasks include but are not limited to:

  • Waking children up
  • Feeding children
  • School runs
  • Housework
  • Cooking
  • Cleaning
  • Tending to pets
  • Breaking up arguments
  • Helping kids with homework

The list could go on and on. Salary.com saw researchers select “a handful of jobs that reflect a day in the life of a mom” and add it all up using the site’s stay-at-home-parent Salary Wizard tool.

And apparently stay at home parents should be raking it around $162,581 or over €142,000 for their herculean efforts of raising a child and maintaining a household.

Example “hybrid roles” the findings cite are bookkeeper, tailor, public school teacher, dietitian, coach, logistics analyst and many more.

Salary.com states that the research is conducted “to honour all the moms out there who work their hardest day-in and day-out,” adding, “We would like to recognize both professional and stay-at-home moms on their unwavering dedication to their families and other responsibilities.”

Hear, hear!
