This ‘suggested bedtime’ chart is annoying parents everywhere

It's slightly ridiculous.

Cathy Donohue

This isn’t the first bedtime chart to do the rounds of the internet but it’s annoying parents nonetheless.

It’s based on the premise that a child’s age dictates what time they go to bed but as many mothers and fathers are aware, this rarely goes to plan.

The first bedtime mentioned on the chart is 7 pm for a child aged 2 and continues in 15-minute intervals until age 18 where it’s recommended that teenagers should turn their lights off at 11 pm.

The chart was shared by the Creative Child Magazine’s Facebook page earlier this month and parents were quick to comment on the post, sharing their opinions.

One mum said:

“7:30 isn’t doable in many households when everyone doesn’t get home from the day until 645. Do what’s right for your family schedule and know that flexibility for all will help in the long run in life”.

Another said:

“I think it depends on your families routine & the needs of your child. These times don’t work in our family”.

Someone else pointed out:

“This is kind of ridiculous. If either parent works, they would never see a young child for more than an hour a day with a 7 pm bedtime”.

Most of the comments have the same theme and say that every child is different and you can’t expect them all to follow the same rules although a couple of people point out that it is a good idea in principle.

You can see the chart and comments in full here.
