OK, we’re gonna officially announce that summer is finally HERE!

Here comes the summer! We’ve got some ideas on how to keep the whole family amused this weekend, so you have loads of choice close to home or further afield. Hop in the car; pack some tasty treats and get ready for several choruses of ‘Ten Green Bottles’ – no time for boredom; fun festivals and exciting events await! Welcome to your incredible shared moments of joy – in association with Cadbury Dairy Milk Buttons.

1) Aerial Dance Fest: Letterkenny, Co Donegal, May 28 – June 10, 2017

Now in its eight year, this unique celebration sees some seriously limber folk swing from the sky on lengths of silk and trapezes for a breath-taking show suspended in mid-air. Aerial dance company Fidget Feet in conjunction with An Grianán Theatre provide a series of spectacular shows – with names like ‘Hang On’ you’re guaranteed to be on the edge of your seat. Tickets from €5.

2) Carlow Arts Festival: June 7 – June 13, 2017

One of the first big cultural festival of the summer, enjoy a hand-picked mix of national and international artists and gigs. The week-long festival has something for everyone, from premieres, award-winning shows and visual arts projects, to great gigs and family-friendly, free events.

3) Westport Folk and Bluegrass Festival: June 9 – June 11, 2017

The tenth anniversary of this famous boutique festival promises three full days of pickin’, pluckin’. blowin’, strummin’ slappin’ slidin’ and old-style harmonisin’ in the self-proclaimed capital of Irish acoustic music. If that doesn’t get your foot tapping, nothing will! Expect acts from the US and Europe for masterclasses, workshops, and a massive session, with an audience from all walks of life.

4) Insomnia Gaming Festival INEC Killarney: June 9 – June 11, 2017

You’ll be a superhero to your kids by taking them to Ireland’s biggest gaming festival, with a huge line up of top YouTube stars. No, you will not have heard of any of them but your children will! The event combines epic LAN Gaming and exhibition halls with E-sports tournaments, Minecraft experts and a range of family-friendly content for both casual and hard-core gamers. A family pass for 4 (2adults/2children) costs €39.18.

5) Real Bodies Exhibition Ambassador Event Centre Dublin: Running until June 30, 2017

This exhibition is designed to get under your skin, as it features perfectly preserved human bodies and more than 200 anatomical specimens. Get a unique perspective on your body from the inside out and see how all the human systems work in synergy. The exhibits combine education, art and science for a rather compelling (and a bit macabre so kids will be fascinated) day out. Tickets start at €8 for children and €14 for adults; Family deals are available.
