The Ugly Truth Of Yuletide Parenting (From The Internet’s Funniest Mum Blogger)

Amanda Cassidy

Having kids at Christmas is magical, exciting, family-orientated and joyful….

But it is also pure unadulterated chaos–the mountain of toys, the whinging over the TV, the squeezing of toddlers into Sunday best for a week straight, the lack of batteries, the sugar rush and the realisation that you actually hate Christmas pudding (But you eat it anyway)

Without being a total Scrooge, you have to admit it is a whole lot of hullabaloo and instead of rapturous adoration from your kids for the gifts you spent hours queuing for in Smyths (when you could have been drinking heavily), they rave about how AMAZING Santa is. Sure, it is totally cute, but jeez, sometimes couldn’t they just let us lie on the couch with a plate of cheese for five minutes?

I have said too much.

Hurrah For Gin is the name of the site of one of our favourite Mum Bloggers, Katie Kirby, and she has totally NAILED what it is really like to parent over the festive season. Her latest sketch is called Advent Uncut. In it, she pleads with people to understand that the build up to Christmas sometimes make mums and dads want to ‘lose the will to live.’ Her illustrations about the fights over the advent calendar are genius because nearly every single one has already happened in my house this December.
