How adorable.

Their outfits are spook-tacular.

Babies in the NICU at a Chicago area hospital got into the Halloween spirit early this week with a costume contest – and it couldn’t be cuter.

The Advocate Children’s Hospital explained that the annual tradition takes place at their two campuses in the suburbs.

A spokesperson told HuffPost that the spook-tacular event is a collaboration between all the child’s life specialists, patients’ parents and NICU nurses.

The hospital’s NICU clinical manager, Paula Glass, told the publication:

“The nurses work with families to help make all holidays special for them while their babies are hospitalized in the NICU.

“Halloween is one of our favourite holidays because it typically is known as a holiday enjoyed by most children.

“For the past several years nurses helped families celebrate this by helping them to dress or decorate their cribs.”

Employees of the hospital vote for their favourite costumes and now social media users are being encouraged to do so, too.

The hospital shared a series of the little ones in their Halloween costumes on Facebook – which also allowed the families’ loved ones to see the sweet celebrations.

Paula added:

“It lets families know that others care for them and wish them well.

“Having a baby in the NICU is stressful, I think this helps families feel some joy. That is important.”
