The One Show has sparked controversy for holding a baby race on one of this week’s episodes.
The segment was aired on Thursday as presenters Matt Baker and Alex Jones were joined by Holly Willoughby who was promoting her new book, Truly Happy Baby.
At the end of the show, a group of babies competed in a crawling race in honour of Euro 2016 but not all of the tots were happy.
In fact, a few of them started crying. This led to viewers criticising the programme on Twitter:
How are the one show thinking a baby race is an okay thing to do? These babies are fully screaming

This baby race on the one show is the worst thing I’ve ever seen! Who’s idea was that?!?

The one show baby race is horrible. They’re crying and screaming. This isn’t entertainment, it’s just cruel…

A spokesperson for the BBC told the Mail Online that the segment was intended to be light-hearted and the babies’ parents were right beside them in the studio.
They said:
“’This was a light-hearted item where four babies crawled for two metres towards their parents who greeted them with a big cuddle.”
The Mail Online obtained the clip which you can watch below:
