Woman sparks huge debate after admitting she HATES her mum kissing her baby

Keeley Ryan

A mum has sparked plenty of backlash after she revealed she hates her mum kissing her baby.

The woman told Mumsnet that she hated her mum “smothering” the three-month-old little girl in kisses, claiming it left her “covered in saliva”.

After asking the parenting forum if it was unreasonable to “HATE my mother kissing my baby”, she explained that she didn’t think she would have a problem kissing her little girl – and generally doesn’t.

She continued:

“But then it comes to my mother and I just can’t stand it. She doesn’t just kiss her a couple of times like other people, she will SMOTHER her in kisses constantly, all over.

“Hair, head, forehead, cheeks, nose, hands (which I particularly hate because they go straight in her mouth) opens up her onesie to blow raspberries on her belly, ‘eats’ her feet.

“I know there’s nothing out of the ordinary here but for me it’s just the amount that she does it. The kissing her all over her face all the time is how myself and my DP kiss her, as she’s our baby!

“I just wish she would calm down a bit.”

And while the mum did admit she suspects “most others wouldn’t have a problem with this”, she said she feels she has to wiper her daughter down afterwards.

She continued:

“I do feel like she’s covered in saliva after every visit and I have to wipe her down afterwards! And we live on the same street so we see her several times a day.”

Many of the commenters on the parenting forum sided with the grandmother over the issue.

One person said that “unless she smokes or is drunk”, the mum was being unreasonable about the issue.

They added:

“She loves the baby, how wonderful for your child to have that. Stop picking fault.”

Someone else wrote:

“She’s being a grandparent , but at that age I smothered my babies with kisses I still do tbh and they are 11 and 7.”

Another person commented:

“She’s her granny. That’s what grannies do.”
