Get saving mums!

Gone are the days when pass the parcel is sufficient – these days children’s parties are getting bigger and better. Specialised venues are the norm and with schools encouraging parents not to leave anyone out – the prices can really mount.

Clowns, party bags, treats and balloons – it all adds up. And it is big business.

A survey has found that 48% of parents spend up to €700 on their child’s birthday each year (including gifts). First birthdays, 13th and 18th’s being the most expensive.

The findings by Asda also found that a third of parents order a special cake and more than a quarter shell out for bouncy castles.

The grand total – a cool 26k for every birthday up until your little darling reaches 21.

And it is time to start saving for the car!

What do you think? Do you feel pressure to invite the whole class? Are parties getting out of control price-wise? We would love to hear your thoughts.
