Parenting hack: make your own edible fingerpaint at home

One thing that's pretty much guaranteed to keep little ones entertained is painting.

Yes, it's messy (which is obviously why they love it so much), but that's a small price to pay when you get a happy child in return, right?

I recently broke out the fingerpaints when my 15-month-old had chickenpox and found that painting the garden shed (much to her dad's delight) was the only thing that managed to keep her mind off the scratching.

The biggest downside, however, is that she's not quite past the stage of putting almost everything in sight straight into her mouth. Especially delicious-looking paints, which bear a strong resemblance to the smoothies that she consumes on a daily basis.

That's why this recipe for s edible no-cook fingerpaint for babies and toddlers is an all-round winner.

All you need to do is mix together two big spoonfuls of yoghurt and half and two drops of food colouring. Any kind of yogurt - rice, soy, coconut milk - will work.

Once that's done, get stuck in! You can paint the day away, safe in the knowledge that messy fingers ending up in someone's mouth isn't the end of the world.
