I’m not embarrassed of the scars’ Why every mum should read this message

It's time to accept your body and love it.

Denise Curtin

There is no denying that your body changes after childbirth.

You did just carry a baby for the last nine months. Giving that baby all the nutrition it needed to grow and form inside you yet, we never give ourselves enough credit.

We give birth and then all of a sudden, we are pressured to get in shape, work out, eat healthy and snap back into our “pre baby jeans”.

This is mainly due to the fact that social media is inundated with celebrity baby mamas who bounced back into shape three weeks after having their baby. If you search the #postpartum on Instagram, you will see these predominantly toned stars in the gym. And although amazing for them, this is not only unrealistic for most people (as we don’t have a personal gym and live in chef) but can also leave you feeling self-conscious thinking “what am I doing wrong?”

And the answer is absolutely nothing. There is no race to a finish line or no “perfect body” that women should be trying to achieve. Bringing a child into the world is such a beautiful achievement in it’s own right and you should love your postpartum body for creating that.

These were the exact thoughts of one mom who thought “enough is enough” and decided to push back against the images of women with the perfect body after giving birth.

Encouraging women to see past all imperfections and stereotypes and not only accept their bodies, but love them. She shared a photo of her stomach saying: “Because I’m not embarrassed of the scars my body now carries. Because I’m proud of what my body has done for me.”

Just because.. Because I’m not embarrassed of the scars my body now carries. Because I’m proud of what my body has done for me. Because many women feel the need to hide it. Because famous women post “look at my body just three weeks postpartum” and portray unrealistic images of what it means to be a mother. Because I feel beautiful in my own skin – even if there’s alotttt of it! Because beauty takes many forms. Because I can. Because you should also be proud. This is me… because I love my body. : : : : : #twinmum #twinmom #twinning #twinboys #twingenuity #threeundertwo #threeinonemum #threeunderone #twinpregnancy #twinpregnantbelly #pregnant #pregnancy #pregnantbelly #postpartumbody #realbody #motherhood #motherofthree #postpartum #proudmum #loveyoubody #loveyourbodyweek @women.of.treign #stretchmarks #bodylove #baby #babybump #babybumplove #beproud #realshit #berealwithme #honesty

The post has received incredible reaction with fellow moms commenting on her courage and beauty. One follower said: “THANK YOU for being real and naturally beautiful! You are inspiring me to love my postpartum body.”

“Your body worked hard…you look amazing…I have some loose skin and a stretched belly button after birthing my 2 son’s. Keep sharing” another added.

Through this post, Eliza is shining a light on postpartum bodies understanding that yes, the change in shape can be scary and sometimes upsetting but it’s normal, real and beautiful.
