So this was my proper first full day of being a brand new Daddy. Looking back now it’s quite funny, but there was a LOT to be learned in that first day. For instance: I did my first nappy change ever.
I have no idea how I was able to completely avoid changing a nappy for 31 years, but I’m sort of glad I did. It’s surprising how quickly you pick it up. The best learning tool is watching the midwives at the hospital, they’re used to babies so it’s amazing. Observe how they hold and handle them – watch this as much as you can. They do also give a class in a few of the basic essentials, which is handy.
One thing that’s not mentioned in this Vlog however is the fact that, as a dad or partner, you’ve just got to leave your brand new little family for the night – you can’t stay overnight in the hospital. It’s a pity really, but very understandable. And don’t worry – a moment alone will be a rare thing from here on in.
