A statement has been issued by the PSNI after a child received an inappropriate Xbox message.

According to Belfast Live, the child's parents were alerted immediately after the contact via Xbox Live and they then contacted the Northern Irish police service.

An officer for the PSNI said that parents should be vigilant about their children's gaming consoles and other onlineĀ gaming options, including smartphones and tablets.

They also emphasised the importance of parents telling their children not to give any personal information to strangers.
