Grandparents refuse to use grandson’s “awful pretentious” name- are they wrong?

Are the grandparents in the wrong?

There are a lot of unique baby names out there. Some actually work well, but others are pretty dreadful.

They may be terrible names, but at the end of the day, we have to respect the parents’ decision.

However, a set of grandparents have refused to use their grandson’s name because they think it is too horrible.

They admitted, “My stepson and girlfriend have recently called their newborn a really awful pretentious name. I know it’s their choice but neither I nor my husband can bring ourselves to say it in a sentence.”

They confirmed their grandson’s name is Stormy-Water and his middle name is Cloud.

They told Mumsnet, “Every time we talk about him we say ‘the baby’ or the ‘little one’. We have been very diplomatic and said things like ‘oh that’s unusual’ but they have started to notice we don’t use his name in conversation and it’s becoming tense.”

Users were quick to call them out.

“Honestly, you need to get over yourselves. I can’t believe you are refusing to say your own grandchild’s name. My sister changed her very feminine name to a male name – Scott William – and not because she was transitioning or anything (this was over 35 years ago) but basically to annoy my parents and rebel. She gets called Billy now (her choice). Yes it was weird but and I thought it was stupid but it would have been even more stupid to refuse to call her by her legal name as that’s what she wanted.”

Another said, “It’s just a name OP and it’s nothing to do with you. Maybe he’ll grow into it and be in a class with a group of other creatively named kids. Maybe he’ll hate it and change it the first chance he gets. Who cares, it’s a name.”

Do you think the grandparents are in the wrong?
