Welcome to week 19 of your pregnancy! This week, your baby is as big as a mango. Here’s what else you can expect this week.

Your baby

Your baby is about 14 cm that’s around the size of a mango but he or she is still only about half its weight. A greasy protective coating called vernix caseosa begins to cover the body. The areas of the brain that control the senses — taste, smell, hearing, seeing and touch — are all being generated this week.

Hair starts to sprout on the scalp and if you are having a little daughter, the uterus begins to form in girls. Around now you might experience one of the most beautiful moments of pregnancy: feeling your baby kick.

You

As your uterus grows — it has now reached your belly button — your posture changes, causing more backache. Lying on your back can make you feel dizzy. This is because the uterus presses on a major vein. Lie on your side instead.

Anything else?

Did you know that carpal tunnel syndrome is common during pregnancy? Another lovely element to consider (*eyeroll*). If you work at a computer all day, now’s a good time to start taking some hand-stretching breaks. Carpal tunnel syndrome  is an uncomfortable burning or numbness in the wrists, hands and fingers and it can set in as early as the first trimester. You may also want to consider buying an ergonomic keyboard, which can help reduce the strain on your wrists, or invest in a wrist brace.
