Man becomes Tinder date’s birthing partner after just 3 in-person dates

That’s one way to get to know someone!

An Australian woman has revealed she only met her Tinder date three times in person before giving birth with him at her side.

In a viral TikTok video that has garnered over 1.3 million views, Alyssa Hodges, 20, claimed her now-boyfriend Max Silvy, 25, stayed by her side throughout labour despite the pair matching on Tinder just eight weeks beforehand.

Hospital staff even believed him to be the baby’s father and he was able to support her during her son’s stay in NICU.

The Brisbane mum told 7News that she was about 6 ½ months pregnant with her son Ollie when she joined the dating app and clearly stipulated in her bio that she was expecting.

“I didn’t want to lead anyone on, so I was being open and honest,” she said. “I wanted them to know what they were getting into right off the bat.”

Silvy added: “Normally I wouldn’t swipe right on a pregnant girl, but there was just something about her.”

In the TikTok, Hodges explained that on what was supposed to be their fourth date, she had planned to pick Silvy up from the airport after a work trip. But after she felt like she was going into labour and told him he’d have to find another way home, he joined her at the hospital.

“I was a little bit nervous because I was by myself, and I was also worried that — okay, yes I want him as a support person, but what if we end up breaking up in a week’s time?” Hodges said.

“We’ve only had a couple of dates. We didn’t know each other very well. At this stage, his parents didn’t know about me or anything like that.”

Her family, too, was skeptical about the pair experiencing the birth together.

Hodges told 7News her mum was “very hesitant” and asked her to “think carefully” about having him there.

“She was saying, ‘What if you guys break up?'” she told the outlet. “She didn’t understand why anybody would want to be with someone who was pregnant and take such a big responsibility on… but at the same time, she was saying Max was a lovely guy and she hoped it’d work out for us.”

However, doctors determined that Ollie was not quite ready to join them on that date yet and sent the then-19-year-old home for a few days.

Silvy said he “stayed with her at her place [and] drove her to the hospital when she needed” during that period until it was finally time for her to give birth.

Even after Ollie was born, Silvy stayed with her as the newborn was in NICU. With staff mistaking him for the dad, he was allowed to stay with Hodges in the maternity unit despite the country’s Covid restrictions.

“He didn’t protest when they did call him Dad,” Hodges shared. “He just went along with it.”

After the mother-and-son were released from hospital, Silvy took the week off from work to help her care for Ollie and get used to motherhood.

“And we’re still together now, thankfully,” she finished the TikTok.

The pair are now living and raising baby Ollie together, with Hodges saying having Silvy by her side was the “best decision ever”.
