Congrats, mum (to be!) – you are pregnant!

These next few months of your life are going to be completely life-changing on every level. And while your beauty regime might at first drop far down on your list of things to think about when you are so busy creating life, many expectant mamas will suddenly find that their skin seems to change overnight or start worrying about stretch marks – and guys; that’s what we’re here for.

So if you are struggling with pregnancy acne, bags under your eyes or fear the dreaded stretch marks, here are our three top tips for you:

1. Fight acne with baby-safe products

Thanks to a surge in hormones when you are pregnant, the oil glands in your skin are in overdrive. To keep breakouts at bay, the best thing you can do is to cleanse your skin with a mild cleanser twice a day. Avoid harsh scrubs or anything containing too much perfume, as this can irritate your skin further.

As for skincare product, pick ones that are oil-free if you find that your skin is more oily these days.

Top Tip: Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Oil-Free Lotion and Clinique Turnaround Daytime Revitalizing Moisturizer are both excellent choices.

2. Fix under-eye circles with hydration

Wake up and look like you haven’t slept a wink due to massive under-eye baggage? That would be water retention, my dear. Luckily, the fix is pretty straightforward: Drink more water. As in, the more fluids you drink, the less you will retain under your eyes (and also around your ankles – yeah!).

Oh, and if all else fails, a generous helping of concealer is your best bet. We cannot live without our YSL Touche Eclat!

3. Combat stretch marks with coconut oil

Just to give you the facts first, whether or not you will end up getting stretch marks is largely down to genetics, so if your mama has them, chances are, so will you.

But still, keeping your skin soft and nourished is always a good idea, and will no doubt make you feel much better about your changing body, so do take your moisturizing seriously, mamas. The best thing to do is to slather your skin in body oil (coconut oil is even an excellent and all-natural choice) after showering, preferably while your skin is still slightly damp.

Focus on belly, breasts, hips and thighs, and not only will you hopefully help ward off those criss-cross lines, you will also get relief from that tight, itchy feeling that typically comes on in the second trimester as your skin stretches.
