Selfcare Saturday: 3 easy DIY beauty treatments you can rustle up in your kitchen

Got some oats and yogurt handy?

Trine Jensen-Burke

What better way to spend a Saturday evening than indulging in some me-time?

And you don’t even have to fork out on expensive beauty treatments. Instead, try whipping these up in the kitchen.

The best bit about making your own skincare is that not only will it save you money, it also means that what you are putting on your skin is completely natural.

Pinterest is choc-a-block with recipes for DIY beauty treatments, but to start you off, these three are just brilliant – and really easy to make:

Brown sugar body scrub: Mix a cup of brown sugar with a good quality cold-pressed oil (eg olive, almond or macadamia) into a paste, then add six drops of sweet orange essential oil. Apply in the shower – while skin is warm – using large circular movements towards the heart. Rinse off to reveal hydrated and heavenly-smelling skin.

Lemon and Greek yoghurt face mask: Lemon is brilliant for making your skin more radiant and getting rid of dark spots, and the probiotics in yoghurt can help clear up acne. Simply mix freshly squeezed lemon juice into some yoghurt and apply to your clean face. Leave until it hardens, then wipe off with a soft cloth.

Gentle hydrating exfoliator: Mix two tablespoons of almond meal with one tablespoon of Manuka honey. Apply to face in small circular motion then rinse off with warm water.
