3 game-changing hair hacks every woman needs to know about

Trine Jensen-Burke

You know how some people just have fabulous hair all the time and is never spotted with a strand out of place? (We’re looking at you, Blake!)

Luckily, their luscious locks are not all down to being blessed with follicles that produce perfectly bouncy and well-behaved hair. No, insists the experts, we can indeed all have great hair; we just need to know how to go about getting it.

If you are fed up with hair that goes flat, oily or frizzy and never quite looks the way you want it to, here are three tips hairdressers swear by for getting your hair extra full, soft and bouncy.

1. Double Shampooing

Lather, rinse, repeat. Literally! Especially if you’ve got thick hair, a troubled scalp or oily roots. The first shampoo dislodges any build-up on your scalp (styling products, excess oil, dead skin cells and debris), while the second shampoo is where you’ll see the real effects of your chosen formula (volumising, hydrating, de-frizzing, etc.). The final result of double shampooing? Truly clean, fresh and bouncy hair.

2. Scalp Exfoliation
Just like your face and body, the scalp benefits from exfoliation, too. In fact, your scalp plays a big – but often overlooked – part in the health and appearance of your hair. Not only will exfoliation swiftly get rid of dirt, dandruff, product build-up and the like, but it will also provide a nice, clean environment for your roots to grow. Look for hair masks that will simultaneously scrub and soothe, or treatments that are akin to shampoo – you simply wash and go.

3. Reverse Washing

Some things just automatically follow others and we never question them – like conditioner after shampoo. But lately, word has gotten out that it actually makes a lot of sense to reverse this order. By conditioning before shampooing, you can add nourishment to hair without weighing it down and it primes the hair before cleansing, allowing the shampoo to be distributed more evenly.
