4 hero products that will make your dry winter hair soft and silky again

Trine Jensen-Burke

Winter is amazing in so many ways – the frosty mornings, the hot chocolates, the fab knitwear.

However, it can also be a total killer for your hair – as I am sure you all know.

The cold air outside combined with the intense heat from fires and heaters inside can strip our locks of their natural moisture in no time, leaving behind frizzy strands and dry, itchy scalps.

In other words; not exactly the glossy, swishy locks we desire.

However, with the right products, you can save your winter hair and bring it back to life. We have tested our way through a mountain of new hair products to find our favourites, and these four are absolute heros when it comes to rescuing winter-damaged, brittle hair:

1. The Body Shop Banana Truly Nourishing Hair Mask

Warning: This mask smells so good, be prepared to literally have strangers sniff your hair.

Aside from the insanely delicious smell, this hair mask is seriously impressive in other ways too. Not only because it left my hair feeling like silk (really, it did!), but it is also 100 percent veggie, made from organic banana puree from Ecuador and Brazil nut oil from Peru, enriched with Brazilian cupuaçu.

Deisgned to be used once a week, this mask will leave your hair feeling super-nourished from root-to-tip, and smelling like a banana smoothie – not kidding.

2. Redken Clean Maniac Micellar Technology

Having been long-term fans of Redken (I have sworn by their All Soft Heavy Cream for my dry ends for years ), I was eager to try the new Clean Maniac Micellar Technology products, which promise to be for your hair what Micellar water has become to your skin. In other words; all sorts of amazing.

And in tre Redken style, the shampoo and conditioner did not disappoint, and left my hair feeling ultra-clean and totally free from build-up.  It was also really mild on my winter-dry scalp, which many other shampoos are not.

3. Pureology Superfood Mask

Say hello to my new bathroom staple – a 5-minute mask that has completely changed my dry winter mane.

Promising to be somewhat of a superfood smoothie for your hair, the Pureology masks are an intensive treatment that nourishes dry, damaged hair and leaves it unrecognisably manageable.

I also love how all-natural these are, made with avocado oil, goji berries, coconut oil and other superfoods. They are also 100 percent vegan and silicone-free, and won’t fade your colour due to Pureology’s signature AntiFade complex. which ensures that your colour remains rich and vibrant for longer than ever before.

4. PHYTOPOLLÉINE Botanical Scalp Treatment

A dry, itchy scalp is the bane of my winter life.

Seriously, I assume it is the combination of the cold air outside and having the heating on at all times inside, but every winter, my scalp (and skin in general) gets so dry and irritated that I am forever on the hunt for products to fix this.

And now I think I have – at least when it comes to my scalp.

Phyto’s new Botanical Scalp Treatment has been a godsend, and has done some real damage control.

Consisting of a potent blend of essential oils that balances the scalp and deters dandruff, this treatment stimulates your scalp with the natural extracts of rosemary, sage, cypress, eucalyptus, and lemon, and is the ideal treatment to energize and fortify sensitive and weak hair.

It is equally good if your scalp is dry, oily, itchy, or irritated, and is even said to help your hair grow faster too – which sounds all sorts of good to me.
