5 dreamy laundry rooms we actually WANT to do the washing in (no, really)

Because looking at gorgeous laundry rooms is such a mum thing to do.

Trine Jensen-Burke

If you are anything like me – and I assume that you are – you are currently spending a large portion of your life doing laundry.

And it’s a never-ending job, isn’t it? The minute you have almost reached the bottom of the wash basket, rest assure that before you can say ‘thank f**k,’ it is full to the brim again.

And on and on and on it goes.

The fact that this is pretty much all of our lives between the ages of 25 and 50 (I don’t even know if it does stop at 50, I’m just making a hopeful guess here!) can probably explain why Laundry Room Porn has become an actual thing (and why Pinterest have millions of laundry rooms pinned by women across the globe.)

If you too like to indulge in a little laundry room reverie, here are five rooms we think will make your heart flutter (and have you taking out a Credit Union loan tomorrow!)

1. In The Bathroom

If you are living in an apartment or a house where there simply is no room for a separate laundry room, we are loving this idea of putting your laundry room in the bathroom.

For starters, it saves place in the kitchen. And in fairness, I have never really understood the concept of putting the washing machine in the kitchen in the first place. I mean; you undress in the bathroom surely – would it not be easier to have the washer there instead of having to bring your jeans and undies from the bathroom into the kitchen to wash them?!

Secondly, it means that if you have to hand wash or rinse something out, you can do it in the bathroom sink and not in the kitchen one, which to me seems far more hygienic, no?

2. Island Dreaming

If you have the space to turn an entire room into a laundry haven, then why the hell wouldn’t you? We are loving how these homeowners have added a wood island on casters to this laundry room.

The island makes for a great space to do any folding or even ironing, and the fact that it is on casters just means it can be easily moved around the room if needs be.

3. Rustic Basement Room

We are not all lucky enough to have basements that can be turned into a fabulous laundry room, but I think this room would work equally well in a converted garage… (so long, cars/bikes/boxes of Christmas decorations; mama needs a room just for laundry!)

The exposed beams, retro subway tiles, and industrial lighting makes this room one you really wouldn’t mind spending time in, we think. A Mum Cave in the making!

4. Small, But Perfectly Formed

Making space for a laundry – or utility – room in your house might mean having to think outside the box a little, especially if you are living pretty compact as it is and cannot afford to lose an actual room.

Here, a corner of the bathroom has been turned into a practical laundry “room” with lots of storage and surfaces perfect for folding and ironing. The glossy cabinets reflect the light and make the sure the room doesn’t feel too cramped. Stacking your dryer on top of your washing machine is a great way of saving space.

5. An Unused Space

In this Scandinavian new-build, a light wall in the hallway in semi-concealing the neat laundry room.

We love how keeping the rooms side-by-side almost makes the laundry room double as a mudroom too. Practical flooring makes the rooms easy to clean, and the tall cabinet provides plenty of storage for cleaning products, iron and everything else you might need to keep handy in here.
