Did you ever walk into a shop or retail space and think: ‘Yeah, I could happily live in here’?
For most people, this sensation occurs in high-end furniture stores and designer showrooms.
For us, the latest location to give us that cosy feeling is the industrial interior of new grocery store and deli Bang Bang in Dublin’s up-and-coming hipster enclave Phibsboro.
On the outside, it’s relatively unassuming…
Inside however, the space has been a labour of love for its owners, the brother and sister duo Daniel and Grace Lambert, who enlisted the help of their family and friends to bring the store to life, meaning many of their ideas are budget-friendly and easy to recreate at home.
Here are a few ideas to get you started:
1. Simple steel shelves are stacked with locally sourced and homemade breads, preserves, cheese and wine (this could work in any kitchen as an open pantry).
2. Bread (locally made Aran and Tartine, natch) is stored in industrial baskets perched on painted wooden crates…
3. The counter is crafted from reclaimed pallet wood, which also adorns the walls.
4. Vintage bulbs hang from the ceiling, giving an intimate and cosy yellow light.
5. Fresh produce is displayed in rustic baskets and wooden crates. This is a look that, carefully curated to weed out wilted leaves, can work a treat on a kitchen counter top at home.
The shop, at 59 Leinster Street, is named after Thomas ‘Bang Bang’ Dudley, a famous local character who had an obsession with Western films. Vintage clothing is on display on the shop floor, meanwhile the La Marzocco Linea 2 Italian Coffee Machine drips Silverskin Coffee from a micro-roastery in Glasnevin.
They’re open from 8am to 7pm so pop in and soak up some inspo and leave with pastries to take home.
If only our own kitchens churned out giant sandwiches and steaming cups of Joe.
