8 Everyday Beauty Hacks That Will Change Your Life

Amanda Cassidy

Does anyone else have a girl pinup? Mine is Olivia Palmero. Obviously, she is a style icon, but she always has a very polished and well-groomed look. It is quite subtle, but these little tweaks can make a BIG difference. You also don’t need to spend a fortune on skincare or hair products. Sometimes a pair of pearly earrings or a bright scarf can do wonders to elevate your look. I personally, couldn’t live without coconut oil. I use it on my hair, my skin, to cook with, to moisturise and as a base for homemade beauty masks. But my basic beauty mantra is ‘What would Olivia do?”

Here are some more of our quick (and cheap) tips for getting that effortlessly sleek style:

1. Tame the mane

I had an awful time with baby hair. These strands are wispy, fly-away and unmanageable. Enter the toothbrush. Smooth down those uncooperative little strands with the help of your toothbrush and spray down with hairspray. Problem solved, AND you will instantly look much more polished.

2. Instant eye lift

Light up your face by dabbing a little loose, shiny powder in the inner corner of your eye. This will not only give a lovely pearly effect; it will also make you look much more wide-eyed and bright.

3. Brighten Cupid’s bow

Never underestimate the power of a luscious set of lips. If you trace your concealer around the skin around your lips and your cupid’s bow (that is the slightly puckered skin between your upper lips and your nose) before applying your lip gloss, it gives much better definition. This will improve your smile and draws attention to your lovely lips.

4. Longer Lashes

An eyelash curler is a must if you want to make the most of those peepers. But HEATING it slightly will double the effect. Blast it with your hairdryer for a minute – you want it warm, not hot. You’re welcome.

5. Eyebrows like Olivia

If you want to copy the current trend of heavy and thick eyebrows, you can create your very own with a little help from…..castor oil. If you put a few drops on your eyebrows and brow bone every night for two months, you should notice a difference. According to Mona Gohara, an assistant clinical professor of dermatology at Yale School of Medicine, “the fatty acids can stimulate blood circulation to the area and subsequent hair growth.”

6. Manicure Magic

If you happen to chip your nail polish but don’t want to have to take it all off. Fix a chic rhinestone or bead over it. Rachel Shim, a New-York based celebrity manicurist, told Redbookmagazine.com ; “If just the tips of your nails get damaged, swipe them with a little glitter polish for an unexpected bit of pizazz on your hands. No one will ever know the difference.”

7. Jazz up your roots

If you know you will not have enough time to wash your hair for work in the morning, apply baby powder to your roots before bed. The idea is that the powder will soak up the extra oils that make your hair look greasy. The white residue should fade by morning, leaving your hair looking noticeably better.

8. Quick nails

If, like me, you are always in a rush, try this neat trick to get perfect nails on the go. Submerge your freshly polished nails into cold water for a few minutes. When you take them out, the polish should be dry.
