Bad news, lads – Penneys won’t be launching an online store any time soon

Jade Hayden

It’s that time of year again, folks.

The time where the general public ponder why Penneys doesn’t have an online store, and Penneys confirms that they do, indeed, have no plans for an online store.

A crying shame, and yet totally unsurprising, really.

In the midst of Ireland’s second total lockdown in which all non-essential retail has been forced to close, the iconic Penneys is of course among those unable to trade.

And although many other retailers have been focusing their efforts on online sales, unfortunately Penneys has no such plan.

A spokesperson told the Irish Mirror that although the company does consider alternative business models from time to time, at the minute, they’re happy enough simply showcasing their products online until the shops reopen.

“Although we will look at alternative business models from time to time, there are no immediate plans to trade online,” they said.

“We do of course showcase our products on social media and our website, and our social media channels have over 22 million followers.”

Penneys, and all other non-essential retail outlets, have been closed in Ireland since midnight on October 21. The country entered Level 5 restrictions following a sharp increase in Covid cases towards the end of September.

There is expected to be an ease in restrictions following this six week period in line with Christmas.
