Breast Milk Facials Are Now A Thing (And We Are Officially Intrigued)

Trine Jensen-Burke

OK, so we all know that breast milk is pretty much liquid gold to nutrient hungry infants.

But we bet it will come as a little surprise to you (it sure did to us!) that breast milk can also work miracles for your skin? As in, a few drops of this and you can clear up adult acne, calm down eczema, hell, even make your skin appear younger and more radiant.

And get this; at some spas in the US, they are already offering breast milk facials. That’s right, ladies. You can now pay to have another woman’s milk applied to your own face.

How it works? Well, at the Mud Facial Bar in Chicago, they mix breast milk with white clay, soothing lavender, and healing vitamin E, before a therapist applies the mixture to your face during the otherwise normal facial.

As for where the milk comes from, the spa explains that it is bought in from local, healthy and clean-living nursing mothers.

And before you are grossed out, know that there is a lot of science behind why applying breast milk to your face might be a great idea. Human milk is, in fact, packed with antibodies. And these antibodies are what protect babies from illnesses, infections, and even asthma symptoms. They can also, together with the lauric acid the milk contains, help gently exfoliate and soothe irritated skin, as well as fight breakout-causing bacteria.

So there you go, mamas. If you are suffering from irritated skin, post-baby acne or any other skin issue, just dab a little milk on it and watch the magic happen.
