The Ikea-HAY collection is here and it is even more amazing than expected

We want everything

It is just over a year since these two Scandinavian design giants announced they were collaborating on a collection that would celebrate Scandinavian simplicity on a whole new level.

And now the Ikea-HAY collaboration collection ‘Ypperlig’ has hit Ikea stores around the globe – and let us just say; we are planning a visit as soon as possible.

Hay, of course, is a contemporary Danish design company, known for its sleek and minimal furniture and homeware solutions, so you can imagine how this translates well into Ikea, who also champions Scandinavian sensibility in its design.

The Hay x Ikea Ypperlig collection includes a full range of furniture and homeware products, ranging from sleek office supplies to minimalist sofas and chairs. Personally, we love this Ypperlig coffee table (above), a steal at just €40. And the LED desk lamp (below) will just all sorts of perfect on our desks. Even better ? It costs only €39.

This is what Hay co-founder Rold Hay told design website Dezeen about the collaboration with Ikea:

“We learned a lot of things from this collaboration that we can apply to our own company: The simplicity in the Ikea supply chain, and making something that’s complex more simple and therefore better and less expensive.”

According to Huh magazine, the 30-piece strong collection is intented to “challenge people’s perception of Ikea quality and design.”

But none the less, hard-core Ikea fans will no doubt reckognize that Ikea’s signature simple style will feature heavily in the collection, like in the case of this shelving unit, which retails for €95.

The collection includes furniture like side tables, shelves, chairs, and a bench, as well as decor items like candlesticks and desk lamps.

Prices in the collection are heavily influenced by the general Ikea price points, with the most expensive piecce being the three-seat sofa bed, which retails for only €595.

What we totally excited about, though, is the fact that Hay has even done a little makeover on the iconic blue Ikea carrier tote; the Frakta.

Now in the Ypperlig collection in a sleek green and white design, we think this might just be another cult buy this winter.

“It’s one of the most known and used Ikea products, but one that no one appreciates as a design object,” said Hay co-founder Mette Hay of the brands take on the classic bag. “We kept its measurements and updated it in new patterns and colors. It’s a celebration of this iconic product.”
