These five skincare wonder products are actually worth your time and money

Tried and tested.

Cathy Donohue

When it comes to beauty products, your skincare routine is definitely most important.

You can save on mascaras and opt for a cheap lipstick over its high-end counterpart, but sometimes you need to spend on your skin to see results.

Note, this is something we’ve had to learn the hard way after a fair few breakouts, wondering what exactly caused our skin to go awry.

That’s why when we find those holy grail products that actually do what they say, we want everyone to know that ‘good’ skin is actually achievable.

Here are a few of the tried and tested products we recommend without hesitation.

Vichy Idélia Peeling, €30

This newbie has been getting a lot of love of late and we understand why. It contains glycolic acid which works to treat your breakouts while magic ingredient Hepes 5% exfoliates the skin, lifting dead skin cells to reveal a radiant glow. Kombucha tea extract, the “tea of immortality”, is a natural healer that also helps to restore the quality of your skin. The overnight liquid peel is one of those products that manages to tackle some of our major beauty concerns but caters to sensitive skin too.

Alpha-H Liquid Gold, €35.95

Ah absolute game changer (we promise), this has been described as an overnight facial which is a must if you don’t have the time, interest, money or dedication to factor in regular visits to a salon. It is especially good for acne scars as it helps to lessen the effect of wrinkles, pigmentation and sun damage. This hero product is also great for skin showing early signs of aging, we LOVE a fast-acting multitasker!

Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate, €44

A great night’s sleep in a bottle. You only need a couple of drops which means the bottle lasts a lifetime (YAY) and it literally works overnight. It combines a unique blend of essential oils and botanicals to give thirsty, dehydrated skin the moisture boost it needs and the natural ingredients are suitable for even the most sensitive of skins. An absolute must-have for when your skin is crying out for some TLC, in a hurry.

Environ Skincare Ionzyme C-Quence Eye Gel, €62

Expensive yes, but it’s a goody. A super light gel formula, ideal for anyone whose peepers become irritated from rich and heavy eye cream. This contains vitamins, antioxidants and peptides which reduce fine lines and moisturise the delicate under eye area. Your eyes immediately feel refreshed after applying this bad boy so you’ll find yourself reaching for it it morning and night.

Skinceutcals H.A. Intensifier, €91

This will put a dent in your bank balance but unfortunately, a proper skincare routine rarely comes cheap. The little jar of goodness only launched in March but already, it has received rave reviews and recommendations from those in the know. If you’re a beauty nerd, you’ll know that hyaluronic acid is essential for hydration and as our skin starts to age, H.A. drops off so you need to make sure you’re adding it back in. This also encourages the production of collagen which is key on your quest to smooth, firm, plump skin.
