Ikea’s new ‘smart’ lighting is basically like we are now living in the future

Niamh Maher

The Swedish furniture giant is getting into home automation in a big way.

Ikea’s new range of ‘smart lighting’ has been revealed and we’re already obsessed, it’s called Trådfri which means wireless in Swedish (they’re so smart).

The bulbs are dimmable LED lights that the company says will last for 25,000 hours, the dimming kits not only let you change up the lighting through an app, remote, or device, but it doesn’t require any special installation or wiring. RESULT.

In addition, Ikea’s line of smart lights includes a motion-controlled dimmer switch and a gateway device that connects to the Internet via an Ethernet connection.

Essentially you’re creating your own Trådri network in your own home that connects all the bulbs in your house.

Pretty nifty.

You can check out the slightly awkward promotion video below.

Not since the ‘clapper’ came out, have we been this enthused about a home lighting system. Now, we just need Ikea to come up with a catchy slogan ‘CLAP ON… CLAP OFF’.
