These life hacks for your home are game changers

These will make all the difference.

When it comes to your daily routine and tasks around the house it’s the little hacks which make things so much easier. There’s a certain feel good factor when you beat the system.

Here are some game-changing life hacks for your home, that you will not be able to live without.

Use Vaseline when painting

A lot of people will opt to use sellotape when painting in their home. It’s a handy way to stick within the lines but it can leave a sticky residue when you’re done.

The best way to get around this is to use Vaseline instead. You can still create an even enough line or boundary and when you’re finished you can just wipe away the Vaseline with a clean dry cloth and there will be no marks left.

Cutting your laundry time in half

As your laundry basket begins to fill each week YouTuber Hozzaaa suggests that you separate them as you go and save time in the process.

Get yourself a cupboard with a few shelf options:

  • Two large shelves – for your whites and dark colours
  • Three medium shelves – for lighter colours
  • One small shelf for items that require special treatment (ie: delicates)
  • Shelf or slots along the side for towels

Label each shelf clearly and place a basket on each one for the clothes. This will make it easier for everyone in the house to stick to the plan.

When it’s time to do the washing, simply take the basket off the shelf and transfer directly into the washing machine. This saves time on sorting into colours and putting clothes back in the basket when you realise you don’t have enough items for a full load.

Using your dryer to iron clothes

This one is sort of crazy, but it actually works.

You can use your dryer to iron your clothes and all you need to do is put some ice cubes in with the clothes.

You toss a couple of ice cubes (not too many) in the dryer with your wrinkled clothes. Run it on its hottest setting for a few minutes, then take clothes out, shake, and voila; you are good to go.

Soften butter without using the microwave

Need butter but it’s rock hard? This hack from One Pot Chef Show on YouTube will save the day. Instead of putting it in the microwave, get a clean glass and fill it with hot water.

Wait for the water to cool down and tip it out. While the glass is still warm put it over the butter and leave it for 2 minutes. The steam from the warm glass will soften the butter.

Peeling potatoes has never been easier

Peeling potatoes is one of the most annoying things to do. Half the time they are too hot to handle and other times they crumble as you are peeling them.

Foody Tube has a better way to peel your spuds and it looks as easy as pie. You cut a small incision into the skin before boiling the potatoes.

When your potatoes are ready, you can simply squeeze off your skins and hey presto! Clean, skinless spuds at your service.

Changing your duvet in under a minute

People use a variety of techniques when putting on their duvet cover. One of the more popular is the ghost technique, where you throw the duvet cover over your head and grab the two corners from within it.

But you will never go back once you’ve tried this technique, which is called the burrito duvet.

It’s fairly simple too.

You roll your duvet up like a burrito and then place it in the cover through the opening. While holding on to the corners of the open end and the duvet you release the burrito and shake it into place.
